I have not been out in a couple of weeks. Two friends of mine who went out said the doggies are getting thick. Switch to jigs to avoid them. I have never caught a dog on a jig.

Doggies eat jigs.. I've caught more than my share... I hate those evil green eyed devils...

I made it out on friday and weather was perfect but fishing was slow. A haddock here and there but a steady flow of dogfish, no matter what depth and not a single cod.
and dogfish will hit anything for sure

Yeah, I ate some crow today watching on the water show. Watched the guys jigging for tuna hitting dogfish with butterfly jigs. They moved on.....

I usually go with jigs this time of year and have never caught a dog while jigging. I just get lucky. Good luck out there.

Went out to Old Scantum last Monday 7/13. Jigged all day. Not much to show for it. 3 keeper cod, 1 cusk, 10 redfish and 12 herring. Got the herring on Second Hill. Plenty of bait but no cod. Went out the Monday prior and caught close to our limit. It was a bail job. Around 2 pm, the tide started running so hard that 24 oz wouldn't hold the bottom so we headed for home. The bite was still on. Fish were feeding on 3" whiting.
